Asian Paints approached us with a vision to celebrate India’s rich woodcraft traditions through packaging design, creating a deeper emotional connection with woodworkers and customers alike. The brief was to design a limited-edition series of packs for the Woodtech premium wood finish range, where each pack would become a canvas of storytelling inspired by the native woodcraft traditions of its region.

Drawing from the intricate craftsmanship and cultural symbolism of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the designs transform the packaging into collectible visual narratives accessible to a nation-wide audience.
Our Process
Immersion & research
Deep dived into each state’s wood craft traditions, studying niche motifs, carving styles and cultural symbolism differentiating visual characteristics authentic to the region.
Design Translation
Cultural insights were translated into refined visuals with the support of AI tools for image generation. Each pack appears as a crafted wood carving in itself, portraying the artistry and heritage of the respective state.
Cohesive rollout
Ensured every pack reflected the local woodcraft identity of its state while maintaining a cohesive visual language that felt accessible and aspirational to woodworkers and customers nationally.
Andhra Pradesh
Drawing from Andhra Pradesh’s celebrated Chittoor red-sandalwood wood craft traditions, the Andhra Pradesh pack centres around the iconic Yali, a symbol of strength and guardianship. Blended with ornamental arches and intricate carvings, the design reflects the grandeur of the craft.
Karnataka
Inspired by Karnataka’s sandalwood carvings, the design captures a serene scene along the River Kaveri, where elephants gather in nature’s quiet rhythm. Rendered with intricate detailing, the pack celebrates the timeless beauty of the state’s wood craft heritage.
